Business in Path of High Speed Rail
“”Eminent domain is the law, it has been around for two hundred years and we feel helpless,” said Al Perez.
Perez’s Main Event Graphics is in the path of high speed rail and like other nearby businesses he was given a notice offering to buy his land, the only problem is he doesn’t want to sell it.
“This is what I want to put all my money into so this is supposed to be it,” said Perez.
Perez says the offer made by The High Speed Rail Authority is so low it would force him to shut down his business. The rail authority says all offers are subject to negotiation and private appraisal and eminent domain is currently not in the picture for any of the properties being eyed by the authority. But employees like Joshua Cortez worry high speed rail will end up costing them their job. “
