McPier suing to buy land for DePaul arena
“The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, owner of McCormick Place, has filed an eminent domain lawsuit to acquire a parcel of land where it plans to build a new basketball arena for DePaul University and adjacent 500-room hotel.
The authority, known as McPier, wants to seize the land at 230 E. Cermak Rd. from CenterPoint Properties Trust, an Oak-Brook based industrial real estate firm, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The move follows another eminent domain lawsuit filed by McPier earlier this summer to obtain a neighboring parcel from Lakeside Bank. Both land parcels are on a block north of the convention center’s West Building.”
