Manheim a step closer to acquire land for new police station
“Council unanimously approved a measure allowing borough manager Mark Stivers and council president Bonnie Martin to negotiate the purchase of a 1.0-acre tract at 213 N. Charlotte St., home to American Legion Ammon K. Gibble Post 419.
The action, which occurred during a meeting Tuesday, also authorized a purchase price of $90,000 or less; it allows for the possibility that if a price cannot be negotiated, the borough could take the land through eminent domain.
“This is something (this process) that I don’t want to do at all,” Martin said, referring to eminent domain.”
