Easements won’t be needed for some beachfront properties
“Granatir and three of her north Long Branch neighbors received word earlier this month that they will not be forced to sign easements for a federally funded sand-replenishment project, because the beach in front of their properties does not need replenishing.
She said on Aug. 7 that she began having talks with the city, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in early July.
“We were actually going back and forth with them because we have an established dune,” she said. “We have been in ongoing conversations, specifically with the DEP, on where the line was for beach replenishment.
“We understand the project — our point was that we already have a well-established dune system.”
The replenishment project, which extends from Sea Bright to Manasquan Inlet, is necessary to replace the large swath of beaches lost to the superstorm.”
