New Jersey Buys a Cemetery
“he state has used the process of eminent domain to claim six acres of land at New St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bellmawr for the Direct Connection highway project.
Fox News reports that New Jersey offered the Catholic Diocese in Camden $1.9 million for the property. Church officials said the land was worth $19.4 million.
Fox News reported that the NJDOT used an evaluation of the property from 2007 to come up with its price, although a later appraisal came in at $3.5 million, according to Feuerherd.”
