Bedford water authority moves to connect Moneta Elementary to sewer system
“Despite protests from two landowners, the Bedford Regional Water Authority moved forward with a plan to hook Moneta Elementary School up to its sewer system.
The authority’s board voted unanimously with no discussion Tuesday to begin eminent domain procedures to install the line through three pieces of property after a public hearing. The board subsequently accepted a bid of $172,112 to contract the project, which could begin as early as next month.
Easements on six parcels were donated for the project initiated and paid for by the Bedford County School Board this fall after two of three drain fields failed at Moneta Elementary late last school year.
Janet and William Peggans, who own one parcel along with their two daughters, protested the decision that likely will result in a forced easement and right-of-way on their property at 12959 Old Moneta Road. The eminent domain process goes through civil court where a judge will determine the land’s fair market value.”
