Roanoke County Supervisors oppose Mountain Valley Pipeline
“The Roanoke County Supervisors are now on record opposing the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Tuesday afternoon, they joined members of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, approving a resolution opposing the project.
The vote is largely symbolic, because federal regulators will ultimately decide if the project is allowed to move forward
“Those of us who are fighting this battle back on the home front always say, how much is enough?” Bent Mountain resident Steven Hanes fears the Mountain Valley Pipeline is just one many pipelines that will cross western Virginia, as the boom in natural gas production continues to accelerate.
County leaders said they are concerned about the potential impact on the region’s water supply, because the proposed route would take the pipeline near the Spring Hollow Reservoir.
Board members also expressed frustration with the company planning the pipeline, saying county leaders and citizens haven’t had adequate input.”
