State Plans to Seize Seven Properties for Atlantic Yards
“Last month, the Empire State Development Corporation filed an eminent domain petition with the Brooklyn Supreme Court, with plans to seize seven properties in the Atlantic Yards development zone, and to determine compensation for the property’s owners. Now, the state agency has begun condemnation proceedings on the properties, which will become market-rate and affordable housing.
The ESDC plans to seize three residential buildings (495, 493, and 491 Dean Street), a vacant lot at 37 Sixth Avenue, a commercial building at 25 Sixth Avenue, a storage facility at 728 Atlantic Avenue, and a century-old industrial building at 700 Atlantic Avenue. The ESDC will use the combined 22-acres to build four residential buildings, a public school, and open space, dubbing the area “Pacific Park.””
