Council to use eminent domain for land near country club

“After unsuccessfully negotiating the sale of 1.8 acres, the city of Conroe will use the power of eminent domain to acquire a sewer easement at the Conroe Country Club located of Loop 336 West near Texas 105.

According to information from the city, acquiring the property is necessary for the city’s sewer utility system and the transmission of sewage and wastewater under that acreage.

The city has the authority to exercise the power of eminent domain under the Texas Local Government Code. That gives the city the right to take private property and convert it for public use.

According to Scott Taylor, director of infrastructure services, the city contracts with Property Acquisition Services LLC, which has tried to negotiate with club officials. He said PAC has spoken with country club officials “repeatedly.”
“We have seen no change in their request for payment for this easement since we last discussed this,” he said. “I think we are at that point that we need to at least be prepared to move forward.

“This is a very important project for the city.”
The project as a whole, Taylor said, will allow the city to remove five lift stations around the city. By doing that, the city will save $100,000 a year in maintenance costs.”
