Forum Explains Goals for Redevelopment Study of Irvington Avenue
“Village officials met with residents Thursday night for the second of two “Reimagine Irvington Avenue” community forums to discuss plans for beautifying Irvington Avenue, including an initiative to designate certain areas as “in need of redevelopment.”
The meeting, held at Congregation Beth El, was held to review the initiative and answer residents’ questions.
“We’re hoping to have the (redevelopment) study done by November,” said Joe Bauman, Esq., South Orange’s redevelopment counsel. Susan Gruel, the village planner, is in charge of gathering data for the proposed studies. Completing the study is only the first step in the process.
Village officials and the Irvington Avenue Corridor Advisory Committee are working together to “create a thriving Irvington Avenue, which attracts patrons, residents and the university community with diverse shops and restaurants; and a safe, attractive and vibrant neighborhood,” said Doug Zacker, chairman of IACAC.”
