Missoula, California town to collaborate on water system fights
“Missoula’s fight to take ownership of its water system crossed state lines Thursday when Apple Valley, California, agreed to help wrest the system from the Carlyle Group by sharing information and strategies.
Missoula Mayor John Engen said city leaders met with their counterparts from Apple Valley on Monday to discuss forming a coalition, a move that would see the two cities collaborate to win control of their respective water systems.
“It gives us a partner as we continue our efforts to acquire this essential resource,” Engen said Thursday. “It’s good to be able to share information with a municipality that’s in the same boat, and possibly gain greater leverage in the process.”
Engen said residents of Apple Valley are facing a 35 percent increase in their water rates and bills, exceeding $300 a month. Their system is currently owned by Apple Valley Ranchos Water Co.”
