A Kentucky Church Cornerstone Assembly of God Battles State’s Plans to Remove Building for Road
“In February, members of Cornerstone Assembly of God in London, Kentucky, voted unanimously to hire a lawyer to counteract state efforts to condemn the church’s property, according to Pastor Isaac Troy Boggs.
Boggs says the congregation purchased the 7,775-square-foot, three-story building in November 2010. He says the following day the church received notification from the state of its intention to buy the property in order to widen an adjacent existing two-lane road to make it a five-lane thoroughfare.
The state has offered to pay Cornerstone $495,000 for the church, parsonage and surrounding land. But Boggs says that wouldn’t even cover the cost of purchasing an undeveloped piece of property in the growing area, which he notes is dotted with attorney and medical offices. Although land is less expensive in rural areas, Boggs says the church would like to stay connected to city sewer and gas lines.”
