Provo Westside Connector project under way after groundbreaking ceremony
“Provo Mayor John Curtis kicked off construction on the new Provo Westside Connector during a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday near the Provo Airport.
The new road will stretch approximately 3.7 miles, forming a direct connection between the airport and I-15 at the University Avenue interchange in south Provo.
“The impact that this road will have on our city is dramatic,” Curtis said in his remarks. “From an economic standpoint, from a quality-of-life standpoint, even from a safety standpoint, giving our residents another way to leave this area in a hurry if that need ever happens.”
Curtis said the $39 million project would not have happened if not for the previous I-15 project coming “so dramatically under budget.” Some of those savings were diverted to the Westside Connector, allowing the project, which had been under discussion for years, to proceed.”
