City’s new tax district OK should mean millions of dollars for local development
“State regulators have approved Butteās request for a new tax-increment financing district for Uptown and adjacent neighborhoods, a move that should eventually steer tens of millions of tax dollars into area development.
The Montana Department of Revenue informed Butte-Silver Bow leaders Friday they can proceed with their new urban renewal area and TIF district. The current district, in place since 1980, expires this June.
Local officials and a consultant spent months developing the plan and held several meetings to gain public input before submitting their request to state tax regulators.
To get the TIF they had to demonstrate blight still exists Uptown. They got the green light within days of submitting their request.”
