New twist in Harrison redevelopment plan
“A controversial redevelopment zone derailed after an outcry from Mullica Hill residents isn’t dead yet.
When officials removed North Main Street properties from a proposed 70-acre redevelopment area, they decided in August to pursue only vacant farmland and a township-owned property. The area in question sits between Woodland Avenue and Route 322.
But Harrison’s Joint Land Use Board is now considering a new investigation — a requirement for redevelopment — by accepting property owners’ requests to be included in the zone. Several have chosen to opt in, according to Mayor Lou Manzo.
Attorney William Potter, who represented the winning side in a state Supreme Court case over redevelopment, said he hadn’t seen an “opt-in” strategy before.”
