Land grab: Does Washington’s eminent domain law go too far?
“Some cities in Washington state are abusing the power of eminent domain, and the law needs fixing, reform advocates say.
The Seattle City Council, for example, used eminent domain to take a parking lot from a 103-year-old woman to turn it into, well, a parking lot, but that’s just the latest example of government officials taking the law too far.
Glen Morgan, property rights director for the free-market research organization Freedom Foundation, says cases like Seattle’s, another in Spokane and more around the state are proof the eminent domain law needs work.”
