Blighted Nine Mile Station area in Aurora to be restored
“Aurora City Council officially declared a 55-acre parcel of land near Interstate 225 and Parker Road blighted Sept. 30, and set the stage for an unban renewal that has been in the works for six years.
The Nine Mile Station area was found to have all 11 possible “factors of blight,” during a conditions survey conducted earlier this year, said Aurora economic development specialist Chad Argentar.
That’s not to say that the area is condemnable by any means, he said, just that there is significant room for development and improvement.
“All the study does is look at things like half the commercial units being empty,” Argentar said. “A building can comply with all codes and still be affected by blight in some cases.””
