Council prepares for vote on Barclay site
“Final approval of land development plans for the Barclay property will come down to a vote Tuesday after lengthy petitions by residents at Monday’s work session.
Aside from the land development plans, much of the discussion focused on condemnation, or rather council’s ability to use eminent domain to condemn the property.
“Eminent domain should not be entered into lightly, but this property is unique,” said resident John Cottage, who helped organize efforts to reclaim the property.
As it was pointed out in previous meetings, discussion surrounded the property’s place on the national register of historic places, use as a park and gateway to the borough.”
