Bragg: City provides condemnation information

“As a rapidly growing city, Murfreesboro often is widening roads, building roads and rehabilitating and extending water and sewer lines and electric service. Our city usually must acquire property for rights of way and easements. To landowners, this can be confusing to their life and property interests.

Often in our General Assembly, bills are offered to increase notices, change procedures or otherwise alter the eminent domain (condemnation) process. Regardless of a state, county, city or utility improvement in the works, there can be apprehension, anxiety and misunderstanding regarding what may be required of a landowner and what alternatives are available to those involved.

The city is trying to smooth out the process, provide information to residents and increase understanding of what can happen and what are landowner rights when a project comes to your neighborhood. We believe more information and more communication can make a difference to the landowner and our residents.”
