Eminent domain may be used to build new med school
“To build a new medical school in Florence, city council is willing to use eminent domain to get two more properties needed to move forward with the project.
For the past several months, city leaders looked at numerous properties to find a space that could help promote more revitalization in the downtown area and handle the needs of the hundreds of people that will use the space.
“Council authorized the use of eminent domain which is a process of working through the courts to determine fair market value,” said City Manager Drew Griffin.
Florence City Council is allowing eminent domain, if necessary to take over property on West Evans Street to build the new Francis Marion Health and Sciences building. The City owns half of the property, but two other people own the other half.”
