Judge rules against Readington’s efforts to take Solberg Airport land
“The battle over the airport and surrounding property has been ongoing for many years. A $22 million bond ordinance was approved by voters in 2006 to buy the property. An ordinance was then adopted allowing the township to either acquire;about 625 open acres surrounding the airport and the development rights to about 100 acres used for airport operations, or to negotiate a settlement with the airport owners.
Although the Solberg family will meet with their attorneys to discuss the details of the latest decision, “at first blush, it seems to support our belief,” Solberg said.
The battle between the township and the airport owners has been in the courts for years and the case has cost Readington taxpayers some $1.66 million in lawyers’ bills since 2005.”
