Toms River to use eminent domain for beach dunes
“Oceanfront property owners who have refused to grant access to their land for beach protection work in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy soon will face a deadline to change their minds or face township eminent domain action to seize the land.
Township Administrator Paul J. Shives said senior municipal officials met Friday and authorized the appraiser to draft reports on the value of each land parcel whose owners have not signed easements. No deadline has been made official, although Councilwoman Maria Maruca cited July 31 in public remarks at a Township Council meeting Tuesday night. Maruca represents Ward 1, which includes Toms River’s portion of Ocean County’s northern barrier island.”
