Eminent domain OK’d as option to complete bike path bridge

“The council voted 5-2 on Tuesday with councilors Sean Morgan and Mark Sorensen dissenting to declare that public interest and necessity require the acquisition of property on Humboldt Avenue in connection with a project to build a pedestrian bridge over Little Chico Creek. The bridge would connect Humboldt Avenue to 20th Street Community Park, completing a key connection of the Bikeway 99 bike path project.
“We are holding up a project that is of public necessity and interest that we have substantial investment in,” Stone said. “I think it’s a mistake to potentially lose that opportunity by not negotiating this eminent domain action.””
