Five important issues in Colorado politics this week
“Ever since November’s election gave Colorado’s Democrats a majority in both the State House and Senate as well as the Governorship, it seems that there is so much happening so quickly that it is incredibly difficult to cover it all. In any given week, there are multiple bills being discussed and, with Democrats in the complete majority and banded together with very little division between them, most of these pass on a party line vote.
Eminent Domain for Pipeline Companies: Colorado Senate Bill 191 would explicitly give oil pipeline companies the right of eminent domain. They have believed they possessed this right for years, but a 2012 Colorado Supreme Court decision, Larson v. Sinclair Transportation, actually ruled against the oil companies on this issue. Senate Democrats approved the bill this week, and it will now go to the House.”
