New Fort Collins City Council to decide Foothills Mall’s future
“Despite attempts to get agreements on financial incentives and the use of eminent domain to take the Sears building before the current City Council, time has run out without agreement on either front. That means at least three new council members will get to make the decision on incentives and possibly eminent domain, if it comes to that.
Mall developers continue to say they are close to an agreement with Sears that would avoid the use of eminent domain. As of Thursday, however, there were no announcements forthcoming. That means three new sets of eyes will scrutinize any future proposals.
In a phone survey of nine council candidates, three said they would definitely vote against using eminent domain at the mall, two were leaning toward no, one was leaning yes, and three said they didn’t have enough information to make a decision. Here’s a look at what each candidate had to say about eminent domain and Sears:”
