West Knox County family fights to keep land being taken through eminent domain
“East Tennessee is no stranger to land being taken through eminent domain. TVA has condemned thousands of acres to help form area lakes. But for one West Knox County family, who lost most of their farm when Fort Loudon lake was formed, is fighting another battle.
We are talking about Callaway’s Landing, a once 300 acre family farm, dating back to the 1850’s. It sits at the corner of Concord Road and Northshore Drive.
After Fort Loudon Lake was formed, the family says they had about 50 acres. Then in 1970’s First Utility District decided to build its wastewater treatment plant here. After a big legal battle FUD condemned 10 acres of the family’s land. Then another 10 acres in 1991 and 11 more acres in 2005
After all this, the family is down to about 30 acres between several family members.”
