Eminent domain trial over Suisun Valley land begins
“Jurors began hearing testimony Thursday in a 2008 civil lawsuit over the value of 82 acres of farmland alongside Interstate 80 in Suisun Valley that the county split with the four-lane Suisun Valley Parkway.
The eminent domain compensation trial pits expert witnesses with Solano County against the expert witnesses of the landowner, Michelle Valine, and the Solano Land Trust.
The lawyer for Solano County told jurors in opening statements that cleaving the farmland into two parcels and running the parkway between them resulted in changes for which Valine should be paid about $470,000.
Valine’s lawyer gave jurors a very different and much higher number, saying Valine deserved more than $1.5 million from the county.”
