Mayor Petty considers eminent domain for slot machine site
“Mayor Joseph M. Petty is asking the city administration to consider seizing the long-vacant Wyman-Gordon Co. property near Kelley Square — just days after a report that a developer wants to build a slots machine parlor on the parcel.
The mayor has filed an order asking the city manager to explore the feasibility of taking the Wyman-Gordon property, at 105 Madison St., by eminent domain. The City Council is set to discuss the measure at its meeting Tuesday.
City Manager Michael V. O’Brien and some councilors were less than enthused when they learned of Cambridge developer Richard L. Friedman’s proposal for the site, which is said to include a slots machine parlor. But Mr. Petty said his order is not an attempt to block that proposal.”
