Nebraska lawmakers introduce bills that would end public power companies’ monopoly, use of eminent domain

“Nebraska legislators introduced a deluge of energy-related bills at the Capitol last week, including one that threatens to challenge public power’s primacy in the state, and two others that would introduce sweeping changes to the industry.

LB 660 would also revoke public power entities’ ability to seize private assets used in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity through the use of eminent domain.

The elimination of public power’s ability to seize such assets through eminent domain is the sole focus of LB 547, introduced by Sen. Dan Watermeier of Syracuse. That bill would protect private electric generation and transmission assets by revising existing laws that already provide protection to private renewable energy generators.”
