Randy Stein cites urban renewal vote in resigning Littleton council
“Former Littleton City Councilman Randy Stein, who resigned Friday, cited frustrations with a citizens group that stifled the city’s urban renewal board in a special election earlier this month as one of the main reasons for his departure.
“What I found is there is a very entrenched minority who have staked out territory where they are unwilling to compromise or recognize the possibility that there might be a benefit to the city and positive growth,” Stein said.
He said the March 3 election where Littleton voters approved Question 300, which will require most common urban renewal tactics to go to a public vote, was a big setback for growth in the city and what he called the “disembowelment” of the city’s urban renewal authority.
The challenge to urban renewal was led by a group called Your Littleton Your Vote. Stein supported the Littleton Strong camp, which was opposed to the question. Littleton Council opposed the question as a whole.”
