Eminent Domain Bill Introduced
“An amendment to North Carolina’s state constitution is one of the first bills formally introduced in the new General Assembly session. Lawmakers reconvened Wednesday in Raleigh. State Representative Chuck McGrady from Henderson County is the primary sponsor of a bipartisan bill that looks to put the subject of eminent domain on the ballot in 2016. The bill, if passed, would put the following question on the ballot:
” [ ] FOR or [ ] AGAINST
Constitutional amendment to prohibit condemnation of private property except for a public use and to provide for the payment of just compensation with right of trial by jury in all condemnation cases.””
