Letter queries Dominion about eminent domain
“As they continue fighting approval for a natural gas pipeline project that would run through Augusta County, leaders for the opposition are organizing for the next round of the fight: property rights for those who could have land seized.
Dominion has requested federal review for is application to build a 550-mile pipeline from West Virginia to North Carolina. If the permit is approved, the company would have the authority to force the sale of property or land use rights through eminent domain.
Augusta County Alliance co-chair Travis Geary sent a letter to the president of Dominion this week asking among other things which eminent domain laws the company would use if negotiations with property owners fail – federal or state.
Along the pipeline corridor, Dominion would need access to an estimated 100-feet-wide clearance above the line to maintain it.”
