Lockport IDA seeks appraisal on GM property that will be acquired by eminent domain
“The Town of Lockport Industrial Development Agency voted last week to seek an appraisal of 91 acres of land the agency plans to take from General Motors.
The Appellate Division of State Supreme Court ruled almost a year ago that the town’s eminent-domain effort to take the land was justifiable, and the ruling was upheld in April by the state Court of Appeals.
However, no purchase price has been settled.
“We need to have a basis for what we’re going to pay,” IDA Executive Director David R. Kinyon said in explaining the need to hire an appraiser.
The GM land is immediately south of the 203-acre town industrial park. The town wants to expand the park to accommodate more potential businesses, since only 30 acres in the park are still unoccupied.”
