PennDOT flexes eminent domain muscles in Gap
“To build the Gap bottleneck improvement project, PennDOT has had to acquire all or part of 14 properties: 12 1/2 acres in all.
They include two businesses — the Pizza Box and Gap Plants & Produce — an abandoned service station, two residential properties and parts of several farms and business properties.
PennDOT estimates it will spend $3.6 million on property acquisition, demolition and related expenses, agency spokesman Greg Penny said.
That’s over and above the $10.5 million project cost.
In three cases, PennDOT and the property owners reached amicable settlements, he said.”
