City Council ‘Moving Ahead’ with Eminent Domain Proceedings for Western Blvd

“Plans for a connector road through Stateway Plaza are still progressing after the Watertown City Council discussed the issue Monday night in executive session, following its regular meeting.

Earlier in the evening, Alexandria Bay developer Patrick M. Donegan approached the City Council with fears the body might not follow through with construction of the road he expects will draw several “very nice, high-end businesses” to adjacent land on his site.

He said he heard rumors that at least one council member was reluctant to support the project, despite the the body’s agreement to built the road years ago.

“It’s been nine years and I’m just getting worried,” he said.

Mr. Donegan noted that several businesses at his current site – among them Ruby Tuesday, Buffalo Wild Wings and the Hilton Garden Inn Express – have collectively created 390 jobs and generated $4 million in county and state sales tax since 2006.

“Without this road, the northern acreage is not going anywhere,” he said. “I’ve done my end of the bargain for the city.””
