Eminent domain may be needed for Ram Trail

“The Delhi Township Board of Trustees have passed a resolution that may lead to the use of eminent domain on private property to build its new trail.

Trustees voted unanimously to begin the process, which includes a circuit court filing to “condemn” a piece of property and take possession for the betterment of public safety at its Aug. 19 meeting.

The property, owned by Jeffery and Susan Matheny, 5570 Holt Road, would be the final piece in a overall plan to have a new trail along Holt Road. But the trail required easement agreements with 19 property owners along the way.

Township Community Development Director Tracy Miller told the board that of the 19 properties, 13 have been settled for easements and five others are in final negotiations.”
