Appleton won’t forcibly take land for new library

“Q: Could you please explain eminent domain and how it affects Trinity Lutheran Church and the proposed new Appleton library site?

A: Eminent domain is the right of government to acquire private land for a public purpose. This can happen with or without the consent of the landowner, but in either case, the landowner is compensated for the taking.

Appleton plans to build a $42 million public library on a bluff overlooking the Fox River. The site currently is occupied by Trinity Lutheran Church, 209 S. Allen St., and Fox Banquets and Rivertyme Catering, 111 E. Kimball St.”
