Urban renewal a priority for city
“The Monte Vista City Council would like to revitalize the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) and appoint a new commission to work on developing a new urban renewal plan for Monte Vista.
“The newly formed commission will work on a new plan that would focus on ‘spot’ blight, which would entail a plan to address dilapidated and hazardous homes and buildings throughout the city,” said City Manager Forrest Neuerburg. “These structures pose a major problem to the city, and the URA would be a useful organization to address this problem.”
The city of Monte Vista formed a URA in 1988 in accordance with Colorado revised statutes and included the formation of an URA Commission and development of an Urban Renewal Plan. The commission was comprised of nine appointees and the plan developed three phases of work primarily focusing on the downtown area. “
