West Springfield eyes Toccoa Lane easement to improve police and fire communications
“By the request of Mayor Edward C. Sullivan, the city of West Springfield is currently in negotiations for an easement with the owner of a property near Toccoa Lane in order to enhance police and fire communications in the area.
“Because it’s a dead zone, we want to enhance our ability to reach the police in the area and community for example,” said Sullivan. “So, we’d want to put in municipal antennas to be able to have better access and communication.”
Toccoa Lane is located off of Winona Drive and is adjacent to a city water tower via a small dirt path at the location.
“We’re in discussions with the owner (of the Toccoa Lane property) so we’re in those stages so the numbers really haven’t been released yet,” he said.
Simon J. Brighenti, city attorney, said a second reason the proposed easement with the property would be for telecommunications near the water tower as well.”
