School district to take over portion of church property

“Oxnard Union High School District has begun eminent domain procedures on property owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because of a deadline set by the City of Camarillo for road construction at Rancho Campana High School.

“The church knew that we needed to do that and they’re OK with it,” said Steve Dickinson, district assistant superintendent of administrative services. “The church said to go ahead and do what you have to do. It’s far better than it looks on paper.”

Camino Alvarez will be extended to cross Las Posas Road and go between the LDS church at 4345 Las Posas Road and the library next door.

Rancho Campana will be built behind the library.

The city is requiring that the district install a right-hand turn lane on Las Posas leading to the school.”
