CRDA eminent domain protest
“What started out with 62 units with probably more than 250 family members is down to 8 or 10 people,” said Linda Steele, President of the Atlantic City NAACP.
In 2012, residents were told by their landlords, at the Vermont Plaza and Metropolitan Plaza low-rise apartment complexes, that the CRDA was looking to acquire their homes and they would need to move.
Friday, the remaining few gathered to protest the CRDA’s attempt to seize their homes.
“They sent us out letters saying they were going to demolish 44 units up here and they’ve been in the process of tearing them down for a week and a half,” explained resident/organizer Sandra Taliaferro.
“We want to see Atlantic City improved, but there’s a proper way and a humane way to do it,” expressed Steele.”
