Commissioners reaffirm their support for Line

“Eminent domain, aesthetics, and long-term ground damage were the highlights of a recent public meeting regarding the Grain Belt Express Clean Line.

Wayne Wilcox, Eastern District Commissioner, spoke to the crowd regarding the rights to his farm, “I’m not trying to take that away from anybody.”
The crowd replied, “Yes, you are.”

Wilcox went on to explain he is supporting a project that landowners will be “justly” compensated for.

Opposition to the proposed Grain Belt power line project met at the Blue Room at Moberly Area Community College last Thursday (May 1).

The debate between commissioners and the concerned citizens of Randolph County centered around the proposed plan to erect power lines that could carry up to 3,500 megawatts of power. The power is created from wind farms in Kansas, and the proposed drop of point would be in Indiana. Clean Line has indicated that they would be willing to drop off power in Ralls County. Ralls County would need to have a converter station built to convert the power from Kansas. The wind energy created develops as direct current, whereas the power used in the United States is alternating current.”
