Beaverton School District eminent domain trial ends with $6.7 million verdict
“The battle between the Beaverton School District and the Crescent Grove Cemetery Association over a 15-acre piece of South Cooper Mountain property ended Wednesday with $6.7 million verdict.
The amount was nearly halfway between the $1.8 million the school district had offered in the eminent domain case and the $10.9 million the cemetery association sought.
The cemetery board was satisfied with the decision, said attorney Jim Zupancic.
“It represented a very thoughtful effort on the part of the jury,” he said.
It is nearly $5 million more than the school district offered, but Deputy Superintendent Ron Porterfield said it is a relief to finally have the property, which is north of Southwest Scholls Ferry Road near Roy Rogers Road. The district filed the eminent domain case a year ago.”
