Senator pulls Ogden Canyon bill
“A bill that would have allowed the state to use eminent domain to build trails near highways has been pulled by the senator who sponsored it after he spoke to Ogden Canyon residents.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Curtis Bramble, R-Provo, and lobbied for by Ogden city, would have allowed the Utah Department of Transportation to take property near state highways by eminent domain in order to build and maintain pathways specifically designed for pedestrians and other nonmotorized methods of transportation, such as bicycles.
Bramble told lawmakers earlier this week the intent of his bill was simply to enhance traffic safety and efficiency on state highways, but he said that after discussions with Ogden Canyon residents he decided the bill wasn’t ready.”
