“Citizens are invited to express both pro and con opinions on a plan focusing on the possible creation of a redevelopment commission to function within the territorial limits of the city. It would determine if blighted areas exist within that territory, and if so, whether redevelopment is necessary and in the public interest.
Buildings in such an area can be residential, commercial or both. The overall goal is attracting private investment to geographic locations targeted.
“It’s basically urban renewal,” City Attorney Hugh Campbell explained, calling this week’s public hearing the first step in the process. “The public hearing will be to decide whether the city needs to appoint a redevelopment commission,” he said.”
