Ruling expected on change-of-venue request in Kings arena suit

“A judge is expected to decide Monday on a key part of the eminent domain lawsuit – whether to grant the change-of-venue request by out-of-town owners of a building in Downtown Plaza.

The fight is over the former Macy’s men’s store needed for the new Kings arena. The city filed an eminent domain suit in January, hoping the courts would grant them control of the property and decide on a price thereafter.

“Yes, the city is justified in that they’ve reached an impasse, they have a deadline, though there are lot of people who dispute that,” said Marcos Breton, a Sacramento Bee columnist. “You have landowners who see value and are trying to hold on for the most value possible.””
