Clarksburg Officials Try To Take Family’s Property Through Eminent Domain
“This property has been in the Davis family since 1967 and they’re confused as to how something like this can happen? It’s all because of eminent domain. Now what that is, is the power to take private property for public use by a municipality in this case by the city of Clarksburg.
The land is in Clarksburg, the family didn’t want us to specify exactly where or take video of it. They told 5 News us they were unhappy with how little notice they were given about this whole issue, but the court said they were given the proper amount of notice.
They filed for an extension for the hearing, but they didn’t get it. On Thursday, the family and city officials came together to discuss the issue. According to the Davis family, they were negotiating with city officials when they abruptly stopped. In the words of representatives of the city, those negotiations broke down and then they filed for a hearing to condemn the property which happened Thursday.”
