Bartow Moving to Take Over Cemetery
“After months of discussion, Bartow city commissioners are poised to move ahead with plans to take ownership of Evergreen Cemetery.
For Leo Longworth Jr., whose ancestors are buried at Evergreen, it can’t happen soon enough.
“This is going to be a great thing for Evergreen Cemetery and for Bartow,” he said. “That is a gateway to Bartow and it needs accountability, and that takes ownership.”
The City Commission will consider a proposed resolution at its meeting Tuesday to begin eminent domain proceedings on the cemetery. If approved, City Attorney Sean Parker will seek court approval for the city to assume ownership of the property.”
