Franklin University acquires Town Street properties, wins $4.25M from ODOT for parking lot slice
“Franklin University is expanding along Town Street even as the Interstate 70/71 rebuild slices a chunk off the south side of its campus.
In December, the private business-focused school was awarded $4.25 million through mediation to settle an eminent domain case with the Ohio Department of Transportation. That’s almost twice the $2.2 million ODOT offered to take about 0.9 acre of Franklin University’s parking lots for a $28 million Mound Street connector creating a new entry point to downtown. Mound had stopped at Franklin’s lots and picked up again at Fourth Street.
Giving up space is difficult for the landlocked nonprofit school that serves mainly working adults who need convenient parking to fit busy schedules, spokeswoman Sherry Mercurio said.”
