It’s government vs. government in Irving eminent domain case
“Most eminent domain lawsuits boil down to David vs. Goliath: the little guy trying to save his house or business from big government bulldozers.
Irving ISD is finding out what happens when an even bigger government claims eminent domain on Goliath.
About 10 years ago, the school district used the power of government to take private property for public use, to turn an office building off State Highway 183 into its new headquarters.
But now Irving ISD is on the other end of the stick. The district is in court fighting the state over its plan to expand the highway. That plan includes lopping off about 60 parking spaces and the administration building’s main entrance.
After operating for decades out of a cluster of run-down buildings, district officials in the early 2000s chose the office building as its new base.”
